The incident took place around 3:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 15, when troopers assigned to Troop G-Bridgeport responded to the area of Route 8 northbound in the city of Bridgeport after receiving a 911 call regarding a shooting.
Upon the arrival, a man was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was transported to an area hospital where he died. The identity of the victim is not being released at this time.
As a result, detectives state police Major Crimes Squad responded to the scene and assumed the investigation of the homicide.
Department of Transportation personnel responded to the scene to assist with the temporary road closure which has since been reopened as of 11:11 a.m.
"This appears to be an isolated incident where the victim was the intended target of the shooting," state police said.
An autopsy will be conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiners in order to determine the cause and manner of death.
